abstract = {Ice slurry is an alternative method to reduce the quantity and emission of greenhouse refrigerants, as well as control electrical energy consumption. However, the production of ice slurry requires the use of scraped-surface generators, which are costly to maintain and consume high mechanical energy. Therefore, studying the icephobic behavior of surfaces is of interest to significantly reduce ice adhesion and facilitate detachment without the need for mechanical scrapers. This study focuses on the growth, adhesion, and detachment phenomena of ice by liquid jets on different types of surfaces (hydrophilic, hydrophobic, and superhydrophobic) immersed in a 10 wt% ethanol/water mixture. A liquid jet is used to detach the ice layer from the surfaces, with a velocity ranging from 0 to 2.87 m s?1, and the surface temperature varies from 25 °C to approximately -9 °C. The results show that ice adheres less to hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces compared to superhydrophobic surfaces. The use of PTFE-treated aluminum surfaces (hydrophobic) reduces the required flow velocity to detach the ice layer by half compared to untreated aluminum surfaces (hydrophilic). An ANSYS® Fluent numerical model was developed to simulate the evolution of turbulent velocities of immersed liquid jets, and a semi-empirical model was designed to estimate the detachment forces of soft ice from hydrophilic surfaces (untreated aluminum). Two types of ice detachment from surfaces were identified: adhesive detachment and cohesive detachment.},

abstract = {This paper investigates the effect of leadership gender diversity on both corporate and green innovation. Based on a sample of French-listed companies, the results show that board gender diversity enhances both types of innovation. This finding suggests that women on boards focus on both firm's competitive advantage and sustainability while engaging in innovative activities. These results are more prevalent for female independent directors and in the voluntary approach of appointing women on boards. The results also show that gender diversity among executives, particularly the Chief financial officer (CFO) position, is associated with an increase in corporate and green innovation. This result suggests that companies should consider top management gender diversity to break the glass ceiling phenomenon which means actively recruiting and promoting women to leadership positions as part of their overall innovation strategy.},

the impact of the degree of coupling coordination between green finance and environmental regulations on firms' innovation performance. Using a sample of 1698 listed firms in

China from 2008 to 2017, we find that the degree of coupling coordination between the

regional green finance development level and environmental regulations is positively related

abstract = {Purpose - This study investigates how employees' experience of resource-depleting workplace loneliness

may steer them away from performance-enhancing work efforts as informed by their propensity to engage in

negative work rumination. It also addresses whether and how religiosity might serve as a buffer of this harmful

dynamic.

Design/methodology/approach - The hypotheses tests rely on three-round survey data collected among

employees who work in various organizations in Pakistan - a relevant country context, considering the

importance of people's religious faith for their professional functioning and its high-uncertainty avoidance and

collectivism, which likely make workplace loneliness a particularly upsetting experience.

Findings - An important channel through which a sense of being abandoned at work compromises job

performance is that employees cannot ?switch off? and stop thinking about work, even after hours. The role of

this explanatory mechanism is mitigated, however, when employees can draw from their religious beliefs.

Practical implications - For human resource (HR) managers, this study pinpoints a notable intrusion into

the personal realm, namely, repetitive thinking about work-related issues, through which perceptions of workrelated

loneliness translate into a reluctance to contribute to organizational effectiveness with productive work

activities. It also showcases how this translation can be subdued with personal resources that enable employees

to contain the hardships they have experienced.

Originality/value - This study helps unpack the connection between workplace loneliness and job

performance by detailing the unexplored roles of two important factors (negative work rumination and

religiosity) in this connection.

We investigate the impact of board co-option on corporate environmental orientation from the perspective of waste management. As waste presents damaging effects on the natural environment, climate change, and human health, businesses assume an ethical responsibility to conduct their operations in a sustainable and responsible manner.



Research Findings/Insights

Employing firm-level waste production data, we document a significant negative relationship between board co-option and waste generation, suggesting that co-opted directors help firms reduce their waste?a finding that also carries economic significance. The cross-sectional analyses reveal that the relationship only holds when a CEO does not chair the board and has a shorter tenure. Furthermore, we find that the board co-option-waste management relationship is stronger in environmentally sensitive industries and is mainly driven by the manufacturing firms. We perform a battery of analyses to rule out endogeneity concerns and check for the robustness of our results. The channel test reveals that CEOs of firms with higher waste management face lower performance-induced turnover, particularly when working with co-opted boards. Finally, we also find that co-option-induced waste management initiatives ultimately increase firms' economic value.



Theoretical/Academic Implications

We document that co-opted boards may enhance firms' waste management practices by reducing performance-induced CEO turnover. Thus, we make important contributions to the corporate governance and environmentalism strands of the literature by highlighting the bright side of board co-option for waste reduction initiatives.



Practitioner/Policy Implications

Our study provides vital policy implications for regulators and top management teams against the background of public outcry and social pressure to mitigate the damage to the environment and calls for ethical business practices.},

abstract = {This study investigates why and when employees' observations of supervisors' ostracism of coworkers elicit their own feelings of guilt. In this connection, observers' silence might function as a mediator, and leader-member exchange quality could moderate the process. The tests of these predictions rely on two studies, undertaken in Pakistan: a temporally separated field study using three-wave data (N = 219) and a scenario-based experiment (N = 118). The combined results indicate that employees feel guilty for remaining silent when they witness supervisor ostracism of other colleagues. The positive relationship between such observations of supervisor ostracism and silence behavior is more pronounced among employees who enjoy high-quality relationships with their supervisor. In addition to establishing key theoretical insights, this article alerts organizations to a critical mechanism (silence to avoid upsetting supervisors) by which employees' observations of how supervisors ostracize others can escalate into their own sense of guilt.},

abstract = {Although numerous past studies have examined the association between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and firm value, the findings have been inconsistent. This study uses a large global sample of firms affiliated with 10 sectors and 65 countries from 2002 to 2019 to examine how firm visibility, financial slack, and monitoring affected the relationship between CSR and firm value. We find that CSR performance and its three dimensions?that is, environmental, social, and governance?have positive effects on firm value. The results also show that under slack resources and strong corporate governance, the positive effect of CSR on firm value is strongly supported. These results suggest that managers should be aware that they can also attract shareholders' interests in the stock market while addressing stakeholders' concerns, especially when the firm has available financial slack and strong board monitoring. However, the positive association between CSR and firm value is only supported by the social pillar in the presence of high firm visibility.},

abstract = {Purpose - Building on construal level theory and applying the hypothetical distance dimension, this cross-cultural study (individualistic vs collectivistic culture) aims to explore the effects of cause familiarity on individuals' attitudes toward a brand and how cause-brand fit mediates this relationship. Furthermore, this study explores how perceived betrayal moderates the relationship between cause-brand fit and attitude toward a brand.



Design/methodology/approach - A quantitative research design was adopted. Data collection was performed through snowball sampling of French and Turkish participants (N = 455). The collected data were then analyzed using the PROCESS macro for SPSS.



Findings - The results reveal a significant effect of cause familiarity on attitude toward the brand, wherein one's attitude toward fit in a cause-brand alliance serves as a mediator in this relationship. The results also indicate that perceived betrayal moderates the relationship between cause-brand fit and attitude toward a brand. However, when it comes to facing a global pandemic, culture has no significant effect on consumers' perceptions and attitudes toward cause-brand alliances.



Originality/value - This research investigates the enhancement of attitudes toward a brand through an alliance with a familiar cause and explains this relationship via attitudes toward fit in such an alliance. Moreover, it provides novel insights into perceived betrayal as a variable that can lead to a more pronounced relationship between attitude toward fit and attitude toward a brand.},

Cet article étudie l'effet de la RSE sur l'évasion fiscale des entreprises. Il examine également les rôles de la gouvernance d'entreprise, de l'effet de levier et de la propriété familiale dans la relation RSE-évasion fiscale. En se basant sur un échantillon des entreprises françaises cotées de 2005 à 2017, les résultats montrent que les entreprises engagées dans la RSE adoptent des pratiques d'évasion fiscale, soutenant les perspectives de gestion des risques et de la théorie de l'agence. Cela suggère que les entreprises adoptent la RSE pour se forger une réputation positive et couvrir des positions fiscales à risque. Les résultats montrent également que les rôles disciplinaires de la dette et de la gouvernance d'entreprise atténuent cet effet positif. Des preuves supplémentaires montrent que les entreprises familiales qui investissent trop dans la RSE sont peu susceptibles de s'engager dans l'évasion fiscale à des fins de richesse socio-économique. Les résultats sont robustes aux mesures alternatives de l'évasion fiscale et aux préoccupations d'endogénéité.},

abstract = {The growing literature on corporate sustainability suggests its positive implications for organizations and stakeholders. Based on the social identity approach, the current study aims to investigate whether responsible innovation can leverage these sustainability advantages of companies to improve organizational commitment and competitiveness. Responsible innovation has been integrated into an original model as a construct that translates corporate sustainability into organizational outcomes to meet stakeholders' needs and to frame and solve the sustainability-related tensions in an ethical way. The study also attempts to examine the mediating impacts of exploration and exploitation orientations on the proposed link between corporate sustainability and responsible innovation. The model was validated by using the partial least squares structural equation modelling method on a sample of 196 middle managers in small businesses in Turkey. The findings reveal that responsible innovation has a significant mediation effect on the proposed links, and both exploration and exploitation elicit the innovation capacity in sustainability practices. The study also supports the argument on the positive impact of exploitation on exploration.},

abstract = {Despite the significance of context in international business studies, existing reviews on foreign divestment have combined findings from developed and emerging markets, obscuring context-specific antecedents, decisions, and outcomes. In this review, we systematically identify and synthesize theoretical and empirical research on foreign divestment from emerging markets based on 60 articles in reputed academic journals. We develop a conceptual framework that integrates the antecedents, decisions, moderating mechanisms, and outcomes of foreign divestment in emerging markets. While firm-level antecedents of foreign divestment are well-researched, external antecedents, decisions, moderating mechanisms, and outcomes are understudied.  Additionally, we highlight that foreign divestment from emerging markets has positive and negative consequences for the firm and the host country.  Drawing insights from our review, we delve into prospective research agendas, forging connections between contemporary research themes, divestment, and emerging markets. We propose that a multi-level approach to studying the antecedents and outcomes of foreign divestment will enhance our understanding of international business dynamics within an increasingly volatile global environment.},

associated with CSR. Using a sample of French firms from 2008 to 2018, we estimate

firm productive efficiency through a semi-parametric and non-parametric methods (Data

Envelopment Analysis?DEA). The results show that CSR positively affects firm productive

efficiency supporting the instrumental stakeholder theory.We also find that the positive effect

of CSR on firm productive efficiency is more prevalent among firms operating in highly

competitive environments and standing out high governance quality. These findings suggest

that agency problems related to CSR are less likely in firms subject to high external and

internal control. These findings have several practical implications and may provide valuable

insights in particular to the French National Productivity Council, which has been actively

investigating the primary catalysts of firm productivity in France.},

abstract = {Purpose



This research paper aims to explore how social intrapreneurs use serious games to generate social innovation. In particular, the study depicts the coproduction process between caregivers acting as intrapreneurs, patients and other stakeholders, and unveils the contributions of serious games and their key features in producing social innovation within healthcare facilities.

Design/methodology/approach



Through an original case study, the article analyzes a social innovation initiated by caregivers in the French care eco-system. Primary and secondary data were used to observe and examine the successful implementation of a serious game. Specifically, caregivers in hospital designed a game that helps children overcome the stress and anxiety inherent to their hospital journey.

Findings



Results unveil the role of social innovations as catalyst of social intrapreneurship and the coproduction of services. In the healthcare setting, serious games both participate in improving the stay of child in hospitals, and in facilitating the working conditions of caregivers.

Originality/value



This article brings together the theoretical background of social intrapreneurship, social innovation and serious games. The successful implementation of social innovation depends on the intrinsic features of social intrapreneurs, coupled with those pertaining to serious games. The positive outcome of social innovation benefits both internal and external stakeholders. Such innovation improves the end users' experience, as the latter participate in the coproduction of their own care.},
