This study used a panel of the world's most sustainable companies ranked according to Corporate Knights between 2013 and 2019. The results revealed that carbon performance positively influenced firm market value, thereby indicating that investors rewarded firms with low levels of carbon emissions. This positive effect was more prevalent in firms with a high level of gender diversity and innovation capacity. The findings also demonstrate that rank-up and high-polluting firms continually increased their efforts to be sustainable, which increased the positive effect of carbon performance on firm value. Our results are robust to alternative measures and concerns about endogeneity.},

abstract = {Purpose: The construction industry in Pakistan faces a turbulent environment and multiple challenges
to achieve its targets. In such situations, the interest in innovation grows, especially in management
innovation, and the conviction about its significant role in boosting organizational performance gains
researchers' interest. Accordingly, this article examines the mediating role of performance management in the relationship between management innovation and organizational performance.
Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected through a survey-based method from 281 managerial-rank employees working in the construction industry of Pakistan. The data were analyzed using
PROCESS macro.
Findings: The results reveal that management innovation and performance management directly
influence organizational performance, while we also confirmed the mediating role of performance
management.

abstract = {Purpose
A highly competitive business environment needs a creative strategy for long-term survival and a competitive advantage in an uncertain market environment. This objective induces organizations to adopt innovative workplace behavior for better performance. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the impact of spirit at work (SAW), perceived identifiability and shared responsibility on innovative work behavior (IWB) and task performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The data was collected from 72 business-to-business (B2B) sales teams consisting of 561 employees working in Pakistan's B2B industries. The data was then analyzed using PROCESS macro to test the research hypotheses.
Findings
The results have shown a surprising and inconsistent finding where shared responsibility has a relatively more substantial and positive influence on IWB and task performance than perceived identifiability and SAW.
Research limitations/implications
The shared responsibility dimension of ?social loafing theory? always negatively influences work-related outcomes, but this study refutes this claim. Therefore, researchers should explore social loafing theory in cultures with a higher collectivism score on the Hofstede cultural model.
Practical implications
This study motivates the sales manager to reassess the shared responsibility concept, as it may play a synergetic role in boosting innovation in selling approaches.
Originality/value
As per the researchers' best knowledge, research on social loafing theory has never been conducted in a selling context, specifically in a collectivistic society.},

abstract = {The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between corporate social responsibility and earnings quality, specifically in family firms.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on a sample of French-listed firms from the period 2005 to 2016, the authors use the instrumental variable approach based on a two-stage least-squares (2SLS) estimator.
Findings
The results show that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) performance is positively associated with the relevance and faithful representation of earnings. This means that companies that commit to CSR activities are more likely to provide high earnings quality. The results also show that the positive association between CSR performance and earnings quality is more prevalent in family firms suggesting that socially responsible family firms are willing to preserve their socio-emotional wealth by disclosing high quality earnings.
Research limitations/implications
The results suggest that French firms commit to CSR to satisfy the interests of their stakeholders by disclosing high-quality information supporting the conflict resolution view of CSR. The findings also support the socio-emotional wealth perspective and suggest that family firms that engage in CSR activities provide a rich informational environment through high earnings quality.
Practical implications
This study's findings can be thus useful to investors for their portfolio management decisions by enabling them to identify the profile of companies with high earnings quality. These results may also help standard-setters and capital-market regulators improve market transparency by introducing new requirements to encourage investing in CSR.
Originality/value
This study extends the research on the relationship between CSR and earnings quality by focusing on two fundamental characteristics including relevance and faithful representation. This paper focuses on the effect of CSR on earnings quality in the specific context of family firms. This study offers then a better understanding of whether socially responsible family firms communicate stronger or weaker earnings quality than non-family firms based on the agency and socio-emotional wealth perspectives.},

ethical values have been justified by appeals to intuition expressed injunctively and
judged to be obligatory. This tradition has led to ethical relativism and a widespread
scepticism about the possibility of basing ethics on reasoning. There are, however,
alternative strategies for ethical justification in which conclusions are derived deductively
from purposive propositions. This essay revisits the notion of reason, purpose
and ethical justification in management to outline a purposive ethics for managers.
The implications for management practice and relevance for management researchers
of such an ethics are presented and defended.},

abstract = {The prevalent use of digital labor platforms has transformed the nature of work globally. Such algorithm-based platforms have triggered many technological, legal, ethical, and human resource management challenges. Despite some benefits (i.e., flexibility), the precarious conditions and commodification of jobs are major concerns in these platform-based employment conditions. The remote-work paradigm shift during the COVID-19 pandemic has made the interplay between technology, digitalization, and precarious workers' well-being a critical issue to address. This paper focuses on microtask platforms by examining overall well-being associated with turking as a work experience. Using a sample of 401 Amazon Mechanical Turk workers during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, data were collected on individual conditions affecting the overall quality of workers' lives. The results from two structural equation models demonstrated the direct and mediating effects of task characteristics, excessive working, and financial pressure, mirroring the bright and dark sides of turking. Greater turking task significance and meaningfulness increase personal growth opportunities, ultimately improving workers' perceived quality of life. However, excessive work and greater financial pressure decrease self-acceptance and overall quality of life. This study examines the complicated nature of work experience on algorithm-based platforms by unpacking individual factors that affect workers' well-being.},

abstract = {Understanding the formation and dissociation mechanisms of gas hydrate in porous media is important for the development of new energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies related to cold storage as they provide significant latent heat and energy density at suitable phase change temperature. The challenge is to understand the interactions between gas hydrates and the chosen storage media in order to assess the operating conditions likely to optimize time and energy consumption in cold production and storage systems. In this work, CO2 hydrates formation and dissociation are investigated in two morphologically different porous materials: sand and silica gels. A calorimetric approach is applied to study both the CO2 hydrate formation kinetics, particularly the induction time, and the amount of hydrate formed for each of the two porous materials. The experiments are performed using a differential thermal analysis device with two identical measuring cells. The present work is focused on assessing the effect of key factors like water saturation, particle size and the morphology of porous media on CO2 hydrate formation and dissociation processes. Overall, the results do not show a statistically significant correlation between these factors and the induction time. Interestingly, the results obtained with dual porous silica gel showed a higher amount of hydrate formed compared to those with sand for similar initial pressure, temperature and water content conditions. This result may be due to the fact that silica gels provide higher surface area due to their smaller particle size (20-45 µm vs 80-450 µm for sand), and the presence of internal pore volume in silica gel particles.},

abstract = {Purpose - This paper aims to explore how the lived experience of online communities' participants makes these communities evolve into online communities of practice (CoPs).
Design/methodology/approach - A quantitative research design was used among backpackers. Data on backpackers' lived experience and interactions were collected.
Findings - The results suggest a process of how online communities can become genuine online CoPs, thanks to participants' lived experience. Their activities (information search, perceived benefits and electronic word-of-mouth) result in knowledge sharing and creation. The findings also emphasize the roles of expertise and offline interactions as process moderators.
Research limitations/implications - This study focuses on one specific practice to conduct the research (i.e. backpacking), which limits the generalizability of the results.
Practical implications - This study offers several implications for companies and stakeholders. First, it describes how the lived experience transforms online communities into CoPs and helps stakeholders obtain knowledge for customers to innovate. Second, it analyzes the processes of participation, interaction and promotion to share and create knowledge for customers to increase stakeholders' competitiveness. Third, this study integrates members' offline interactions by highlighting their potential effects on tacit knowledge loss in online CoPs.
Originality/value - The literature posits that online communities may evolve into online CoPs through a three-stage hierarchical path, but the underlying mechanisms and members' contributions to the process have been largely neglected in the literature.},

abstract = {We assess the corporate performance and corporate governance consequences of mandatory employee board representation through a natural experiment: the passage of the 2015 Rebsamen law in France, which requires 1 or 2 board seats to be allocated to employee representatives. We hypothesize that such formal institutional arrangements to give workers a voice in corporate governance are irrelevant for family firms, which have been shown to commit to implicit contracts with their employees. We find evidence that affected family firms' share prices reacted negatively to the passage of the law. Moreover, standard OLS regressions of operating performance suggest that family control neutralizes the positive effect associated with employee directors. A more sophisticated difference-in-differences approach shows that affected family firms experienced a significant subsequent decrease in their return on assets. Our investigations of board composition also suggest that family firms rely on avoidance strategies to offset the influence of employee representatives. Overall, this paper casts doubt on the efficiency of minority worker representation in the boardrooms of family-owned companies and thus cautions against a ?one-size-fits-all? approach to corporate governance practices.},

However, published analyses generally exclude some of the oldest individuals to avoid generational bias. As such, the indicators produced are not directly comparable with the usual indicators of living standard inequalities calculated for the general population. This article proposes an original method for controlling for this generational bias in order to quantify the share of inequalities attributable to educational homogamy in the general population. Using logistic models of spousal matching probabilities by educational qualification, changes in education levels across generations are closely examined, as well as their role in the inequalities associated with educational homogamy. The results obtained from French data for the 2003-2013 period reveal that the impact of educational homogamy on inequalities in living standards is statistically significant but very slight. It affects primarily the top of the living standards distribution and can only be demonstrated by controlling for generational effect.},

Analysis of 304 responses collected from consumers in the United Arab Emirates revealed that environmental consciousness, attitude towards green products, anticipated pride, and anticipated guilt positively influence the intention to purchase green products, but not perceived behavioral control and subjective norms. Interestingly, anticipated pride increases green purchase intention under low level of environmental consciousness, while anticipated guilt decreases purchase intention. In contrast, anticipated guilt positively influences green purchase intention under high environmental consciousness, while anticipated pride does not. This study extends current knowledge related to green purchase behavior and provides a nuanced understanding of the influence of anticipated emotions. The sample consists of 243 North American firms pursuing corporate venture capital (CVC) investments from 1993 to 2017. The results show that dynamic sequential ambidexterity promotes higher firm performance than balanced or simultaneous forms of ambidexterity. Alternating pursuit of exploitation and exploration characterized by a regular frequency of change over time enhances corporate investors' financial performance. The results suggest that CVC firms develop additional expertise in pursuing both exploitation and exploration activities over time which helps to enhance their performance. The findings also show that in times of crisis, the combined use of both exploration and exploitation in CVC investments enables firms to enhance their financial performance. The results are robust to alternative measures of financial performance and to endogeneity concerns. This paper provides insights to policymakers and managers of firms that are investing in CVC activities.},

Through an analysis of a sample of 4206 US companies, we find that CVC-backed companies have a longer investment duration and a larger investment amount than IVC-backed companies. Our analysis reveals that geographic distance and industry-relatedness are influential for the success of the company. We show that industry-relatedness is more likely to lead to an acquisition exit while geographic proximity rather fosters IPO exits.},

So far, the literature answers by assuming new comparative advantages (in terms of learning or training) for East Asian countries and/or deficient research organization in Western economies. We develop an original micro-macro model based on the aggregation of individual knowledge production functions. Our model predicts the existence of a stable macro power law, relating the world share of countries' scientific production (publications and citations) to their world share of public investment in scientific research. We test and support this prediction, using bibliometric cross-country longitudinal data for OECD and non-OECD countries, over the 1996-2015 period. This analysis shows that East Asian countries' impressive catch-up is due, to the first order, to sustained investment efforts in scientific research - efforts that are greater than those undertaken in traditional scientific countries.},

Because of their complex nature, they cannot be approached solely through analytical modeling, hence the inefficiency of most classical modeling approaches. In this article, a Hybrid Approach based on both systemic and analytical modeling is presented and applied to a case study. From this novel approach, a model?the Multi-Institution Building Energy System?is presented. It allowed us to highlight and detail the need for greater governance of energy systems. The socio-technical solutions identified to answer the issues of governance (Accuracy, Reliability and Fairness) were DevOps methodology and the use of Distributed Microservices Architecture. Based on this framework, the design of a Decision Support System assuring and exploiting state-of-the-art scalable tools for data management and machine learning factories is described in this article. Moreover, we wish to set up the conceptual basis necessary for the design of a generic theoretical framework of optimization applicable to complex socio-technical systems in the context of the management of a shared resource.},

abstract = {Purpose
This paper aims to investigate how pharmacies communicate their customer value proposition (CVP) in a complex and multiple-stakeholder setting. More specifically, from the pharmacists' perspective, the study analyzes how CVP is articulated in complex settings/offerings and among multiple stakeholders; and elucidates the communication gap among stakeholders of the CVP.
Design/methodology/approach
Two studies were conducted to examine how offerings are communicated throughout the value chain. Through six in-depth interviews, Study 1 aimed to analyze how pharmacies articulate CVP for over-the-counter (OTC) drugs in a complex business-to-business-to-consumer setting. For Study 2, the data were collected from 113 French pharmacists to investigate the communication issues and to unveil the tools used to promote OTC drugs among the different stakeholders.
Findings
From the pharmacists' perspective, the longer the chain, the more complex the efficiency of the CVP. This study conceives a new and adapted CVP as iterative and cumulative. This paper also highlights how value is distributed across the customer relationship in a complex and regulated industry. The findings feature a reciprocal perspective of CVP between the pharmaceutical labs and their direct/indirect customers. Final customers aim at creating a reciprocal approach with the different stakeholders. Pharmacists use a unidirectional perspective of CVP with their direct customers (patients/final customers).
Originality/value
The study contributes to a better understanding of the CVP in complex industries characterized by a chain of value distributed among multiple stakeholders (i.e. business-to-consumer and business-to-business). The article also enriches past research that analyzed the way firms communicate their offerings from a CVP perspective.},

Based on a copula approach, the results show that all studied markets are affected by the COVID-19 outbreak and the presence of financial contagion for all American and Asian countries. The results also show that contagion is more intense for American countries than Asian ones. These findings have practical implications, especially for investors, risk managers, and policy makers. The authors are exploiting a database with the number of public procurement contracts won by SBF 120 companies in France and a constructed CSR index over the period of
2007-2015. The authors provide estimates of the amount of public contracts won by those companies. The results suggest a striking influence of CSR communication on the ability of firms to win contracts. This study focused on the case of the SBF 120 companies under the French regulatory system and European directives, which are different from the obligations in North American countries.
Second, our constructed CSR index may be too simplistic in nature, and its application is limited only to the French
context. Third, we do not have any evidence about the efficiency of well-ranked firms in our study. CSR reporting is still considered to be a form of communication, even if formal, that can contain information that does not especially reflect
reality, as the scandals of several companies have shown in recent years (e.g. Volkswagen, Eiffage, Enron).
Practical implications - Companies should consider Business-to-Government (B-to-G) market when
investing in CSR actions.
Originality/value - This is one of the first empirical studies measuring the impact of CSR on the ability of
companies to win public contracts.},

Alongside this, previous literature on ICT and CO2 emissions provides that ICT is a double-edged sword that can increase/decrease emissions. Against this background, this study checks the role of ICT and education with environmental quality by controlling the role of globalization, income, and financial development for developing countries over the period of 1996-2019. For empirical analysis, we use second generation econometric methods which overcome the issue of heterogeneity in the study variables. The Westerlund cointegration test results show the presence of long-run link among the variables. The long-run estimates of Cup-FM and Cup-BC indicate that ICT increases environmental quality by reducing the emissions level while education, income, financial development, and globalization decrease environmental quality by increasing emissions level. Policymakers are suggested to encourage investment building ICT infrastructure, develop and implement modern information systems, use the financial sector to devise policies regarding funding ICT projects at an affordable interest rate, and increase public pressure on political leadership to reduce unsustainable practices improving environmental quality.},

Using a sample of listed firms from 20 developed countries across three regions, namely United States (US), United Kingdom (UK) and Europe (EU) over the period 2002-2016 and different measures of CSR performance (environmental and social), we find that socially responsible firms demand high-quality audits from external auditors. Further analysis shows that this result is robust to the use of alternate samples, country and firm level governance systems, and endogeneity concerns. Taken together, these findings suggest that socially responsible attributes of being ethical, honest, trustworthy, and transparent while reporting financial results motivate firms to demand high-quality audits in order to preserve their reputation or socially responsible image. The main implication of our findings is that the stakeholders may place greater confidence in the financial reports of socially responsible firms as they are likely to demand high-quality audits.},

Second, evidence is presented that March's conclusions, irrespective of their legacy on management and organisation studies, were not developed along and were not consistent with the foundations that March espoused and advocated during most of his career. As a result, the implications of his conclusions are uncertain. To his credit, however, there are reasons to believe that, towards the end of his career, March came to recognise the limitations of his scholarship. Further, he indicated an alternative avenue for organisation studies which eschews the
shortcomings of positivist and post-modern research.},

Based on an international sample of 41,535 firm-year observations from 2005 to 2018, the results show that tax avoidance negatively affects the value of excess cash. This negative effect is only prevalent for firms operating in countries with strong investor protection. This study also explores the role of economic policy uncertainty and shows that tax avoidance lowers the discount on the value of excess cash in uncertain times because investors may underestimate any negative reputational and risky practices. These findings have important implications for investors, policymakers and the welfare of the overall economy.},

abstract = {Previous studies have provided evidence of the effect that accounting regulation through the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) has on the informational environment. However, none have investigated how this effect is driven. This study examines whether earnings quality is an effective channel through which the IFRS can mitigate the level of information asymmetry. Based on a sample of French listed companies, we find that information asymmetry decreases significantly after the adoption of IFRS. Using a path analysis and maximum likelihood estimations, the results show that the faithful representation component of earnings quality is the only channel through which IFRS decrease the level of information asymmetry. This finding suggests that the faithful representation of earnings increased under IFRS regulation, which, in turn, enhanced the quality of the informational environment. Our findings are robust using several sensitivity analyses.},

Multi-sided Internet platforms become knowledge flow vehicles, nurturing customer knowledge. Knowledge hiding is widespread in services contexts impairing knowledge sharing. Firms need to integrate the knowledge-based customer experience to attain performance goals. Using social exchange theory and customer experience theory, we adopt a customer perspective to uncover the type of knowledge hidden and the motivations for customers to hide it on service multi-sided platforms. Combining narrative inquiry and critical incident technique we collected an original dataset of 51 narrative accounts of multi-sided platform users (Uber, Airbnb, and BlaBlaCar). We identify 10 major categories of hidden knowledge building on the identified critical incidents and five motivations to hide knowledge. The findings enrich the literature on knowledge hiding by providing the customer viewpoint. For practitioners, firms need to acknowledge customers' knowledge hiding behaviors in multi-sided settings.},

We examine whether the innovative outputs of entrepreneurial companies are responsive to access to complementary resources from different types of venture capital (VC) funds: ?independent venture capital (IVC) and corporate venture capital (CVC)?. We then delve deeper and examine the mechanisms by which we measure if access to investors' complementary resources has an influence on the innovation performance of the companies they fund. Our sample consists of 1547 U.S. biotechnology companies founded between 1998 and 2013 and financed by IVC or CVC funds. We find that CVC-backed companies display higher rates of innovation output, as measured by their patenting outcomes, than their IVC-backed counterparts. We specify three mechanisms that affect the influence of complementary resources of corporate investors compared to those of IVC: (1) absorptive capacity enhances the ability of the company to grasp and utilize investor knowledge; (2) business similarity helps nurture the technologies of innovative companies, and (3) geographic proximity enables approachability.},

The institutional investor attention is measured from the number of times that users of Bloomberg terminal, who are mostly institutional investors, search for or read articles on a specific stock. Relying on a large international dataset of approximately a million daily observations over the period 2011-2020 from nine countries (Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Switzerland, the UK, and the US), we find that this recent measure of institutional investor attention has a strong positive effect on stock volatility and liquidity. Confirmed by a battery of robustness tests, our findings suggest that this continuous barometer of attention by institutional investors can be used by financial practitioners to predict future stock volatility and liquidity.},

abstract = {Managerialism has often been defi ned as an ideology, according to which the effective and effi cient running of commercial fi rms, not-for-profit organizations and public administrations is delivered by individuals who possess superior formal knowledge and expertise in management. Arguing to their exclusive education, managers deprive employers and employees of decision-making power and ensconce themselves systematically in the power structure of workplaces to advance their own interests and agenda.
The central thesis of Overcoming Managerialism is that resisting and overcoming managerialism necessitates the re-establishing of the conceptual distinction between power and authority. Second, it requires the rehabilitating of authoritative management as a protection against authoritarian practices. Authority, properly conceived, redirects power to technical experts and professionals and thereby limits managerial power. The authors discuss ten contentions which, taken together, represent a theory of the foundation of management in which authority, power and rhetoric are central
concepts.
This book combines academic scholarship with a readable critique of managerialism. It will be of interest to both management scholars and students.},

abstract = {We assess the corporate performance and corporate governance consequences of mandatory employee board representation through a natural experiment: the passage of the 2015 Rebsamen law in France, which requires 1 or 2 board seats to be allocated to employee representatives.
